The Six Trumpet Brings The Second Terror (Revelation 9:13-21) New Living and Good News Translations

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
13  Then the sixth angel blew his trumpet, and I heard a voice speaking from the four horns of the gold altar that stands in the presence of God.
14  And the voice said to the sixth angel who held the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great Euphrates River.”
15  Then the four angels who had been prepared for this hour and day and month and year were turned loose to kill one-third of all the people on earth.
16  I heard the size of their army, which was 200 million mounted troops.
17  And in my vision, I saw the horses and the riders sitting on them. The riders wore armor that was fiery red and dark blue and yellow. The horses had heads like lions, and fire and smoke and burning sulfur billowed from their mouths.
18  One-third of all the people on earth were killed by these three plagues—by the fire and smoke and burning sulfur that came from the mouths of the horses.
19  Their power was in their mouths and in their tails. For their tails had heads like snakes, with the power to injure people.
20  But the people who did not die in these plagues still refused to repent of their evil deeds and turn to God. They continued to worship demons and idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood—idols that can neither see nor hear nor walk!
21  And they did not repent of their murders or their witchcraft or their sexual immorality or their thefts.

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
13  Then the sixth angel blew his trumpet. I heard a voice coming from the four corners of the gold altar standing before God.
14  The voice said to the sixth angel, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great Euphrates River!”
15  The four angels were released; for this very hour of this very day of this very month and year they had been kept ready to kill a third of all the human race.
16  I was told the number of the mounted troops: it was two hundred million.
17  And in my vision I saw the horses and their riders: they had breastplates red as fire, blue as sapphire, and yellow as sulfur. The horses' heads were like lions' heads, and from their mouths came out fire, smoke, and sulfur.
18  A third of the human race was killed by those three plagues: the fire, the smoke, and the sulfur coming out of the horses' mouths.
19  For the power of the horses is in their mouths and also in their tails. Their tails are like snakes with heads, and they use them to hurt people.
20  The rest of the human race, all those who had not been killed by these plagues, did not turn away from what they themselves had made. They did not stop worshiping demons, nor the idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood, which cannot see, hear, or walk.
21  Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic, their sexual immorality, or their stealing.

The Fifth Trumpet Brings The First Terror (Revelation 9:1-12) New Living and Good News Translations

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
1    Then the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen to earth from the sky, and he was given the key to the shaft of the bottomless pit.
2    When he opened it, smoke poured out as though from a huge furnace, and the sunlight and air turned dark from the smoke.
3    Then locusts came from the smoke and descended on the earth, and they were given power to sting like scorpions.
4    They were told not to harm the grass or plants or trees, but only the people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads.
5    They were told not to kill them but to torture them for five months with pain like the pain of a scorpion sting.
6    In those days people will seek death but will not find it. They will long to die, but death will flee from them!
7    The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. They had what looked like gold crowns on their heads, and their faces looked like human faces.
8    They had hair like women’s hair and teeth like the teeth of a lion.
9    They wore armor made of iron, and their wings roared like an army of chariots rushing into battle.
10  They had tails that stung like scorpions, and for five months they had the power to torment people.
11  Their king is the angel from the bottomless pit; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon—the Destroyer.
12  The first terror is past, but look, two more terrors are coming!

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
1    Then the fifth angel blew his trumpet. I saw a star which had fallen down to the earth, and it was given the key to the abyss.
2    The star opened the abyss, and smoke poured out of it, like the smoke from a large furnace; the sunlight and the air were darkened by the smoke from the abyss.
3    Locusts came down out of the smoke upon the earth, and they were given the same kind of power that scorpions have.
4    They were told not to harm the grass or the trees or any other plant; they could harm only the people who did not have the mark of God's seal on their foreheads.
5    The locusts were not allowed to kill these people, but only to torture them for five months. The pain caused by the torture is like the pain caused by a scorpion's sting.
6    During those five months they will seek death, but will not find it; they will want to die, but death will flee from them.
7    The locusts looked like horses ready for battle; on their heads they had what seemed to be crowns of gold, and their faces were like human faces.
8    Their hair was like women's hair, their teeth were like lions' teeth.
9    Their chests were covered with what looked like iron breastplates, and the sound made by their wings was like the noise of many horse-drawn chariots rushing into battle.
10  They have tails and stings like those of a scorpion, and it is with their tails that they have the power to hurt people for five months.
11  They have a king ruling over them, who is the angel in charge of the abyss. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon; in Greek the name is Apollyon (meaning “The Destroyer”).
12   The first horror is over; after this there are still two more horrors to come.

The First Four Trumpets (Revelation 8:6-13) New Living and Good News Translations

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
6    Then the seven angels with the seven trumpets prepared to blow their mighty blasts.
7    The first angel blew his trumpet, and hail and fire mixed with blood were thrown down on the earth. One-third of the earth was set on fire, one-third of the trees were burned, and all the green grass was burned.
8    Then the second angel blew his trumpet, and a great mountain of fire was thrown into the sea. One-third of the water in the sea became blood,
9    one-third of all things living in the sea died, and one-third of all the ships on the sea were destroyed.
10  Then the third angel blew his trumpet, and a great star fell from the sky, burning like a torch. It fell on one-third of the rivers and on the springs of water.
11  The name of the star was Bitterness. It made one-third of the water bitter, and many people died from drinking the bitter water.
12  Then the fourth angel blew his trumpet, and one-third of the sun was struck, and one-third of the moon, and one-third of the stars, and they became dark. And one-third of the day was dark, and also one-third of the night.
13  Then I looked, and I heard a single eagle crying loudly as it flew through the air, “Terror, terror, terror to all who belong to this world because of what will happen when the last three angels blow their trumpets.”

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
6    Then the seven angels with the seven trumpets prepared to blow them.
7    The first angel blew his trumpet. Hail and fire, mixed with blood, came pouring down on the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees, and every blade of green grass.
8    Then the second angel blew his trumpet. Something that looked like a huge mountain on fire was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea was turned into blood,
9    a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.
10  Then the third angel blew his trumpet. A large star, burning like a torch, dropped from the sky and fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water.
11  (The name of the star is “Bitterness.”) A third of the water turned bitter, and many people died from drinking the water, because it had turned bitter.
12  Then the fourth angel blew his trumpet. A third of the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that their light lost a third of its brightness; there was no light during a third of the day and a third of the night also.
13  Then I looked, and I heard an eagle that was flying high in the air say in a loud voice, “O horror! horror! How horrible it will be for all who live on earth when the sound comes from the trumpets that the other three angels must blow!”

The Lamb Breaks The Seventh Seal (Revelation 8:1-5) New Living and Good News Translations

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
1  When the Lamb broke the seventh seal on the scroll, there was silence throughout heaven for about half an hour.
2  I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and they were given seven trumpets.
3  Then another angel with a gold incense burner came and stood at the altar. And a great amount of incense was given to him to mix with the prayers of God’s people as an offering on the gold altar before the throne.
4  The smoke of the incense, mixed with the prayers of God’s holy people, ascended up to God from the altar where the angel had poured them out.
5  Then the angel filled the incense burner with fire from the altar and threw it down upon the earth; and thunder crashed, lightning flashed, and there was a terrible earthquake.

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
1  When the Lamb broke open the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.
2  Then I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and they were given seven trumpets.
3  Another angel, who had a gold incense container, came and stood at the altar. He was given a lot of incense to add to the prayers of all God's people and to offer it on the gold altar that stands before the throne.
4  The smoke of the burning incense went up with the prayers of God's people from the hands of the angel standing before God.
5  Then the angel took the incense container, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it on the earth. There were rumblings and peals of thunder, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.

Praise From The Great Crowd (Revelation 7:9-17) New Living and Good News Translations

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
9    After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands.
10  And they were shouting with a great roar, “Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne
    and from the Lamb!”
11  And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living beings. And they fell before the throne with their faces to the ground and worshiped God.
12  They sang, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and strength belong to our God forever and ever! Amen.”
13  Then one of the twenty-four elders asked me, “Who are these who are clothed in white? Where did they come from?”
14  And I said to him, “Sir, you are the one who knows.”  Then he said to me, “These are the ones who died in the great tribulation. They have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb and made them white.
15  “That is why they stand in front of God’s throne and serve him day and night in his Temple.  And he who sits on the throne will give them shelter.
16  They will never again be hungry or thirsty; they will never be scorched by the heat of the sun.
17  For the Lamb on the throne will be their Shepherd.  He will lead them to springs of life-giving water.
And God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
9    After this I looked, and there was an enormous crowd—no one could count all the people! They were from every race, tribe, nation, and language, and they stood in front of the throne and of the Lamb, dressed in white robes and holding palm branches in their hands.
10  They called out in a loud voice: “Salvation comes from our God, who sits on the throne, and from the Lamb!”
11  All the angels stood around the throne, the elders, and the four living creatures. Then they threw themselves face downward in front of the throne and worshiped God,
12  saying, “Amen! Praise, glory, wisdom, thanksgiving, honor, power, and might belong to our God forever and ever! Amen!”
13  One of the elders asked me, “Who are these people dressed in white robes, and where do they come from?”
14  “I don't know, sir. You do,” I answered.  He said to me, “These are the people who have come safely through the terrible persecution. They have washed their robes and made them white with the blood of the Lamb.
15  That is why they stand before God's throne and serve him day and night in his temple. He who sits on the throne will protect them with his presence.
16  Never again will they hunger or thirst; neither sun nor any scorching heat will burn them,
17  because the Lamb, who is in the center of the throne, will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of life-giving water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

God's People Will Be Preserved (Revelation 7:1-8) New Living and Good News Translations

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
1  Then I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds so they did not blow on the earth or the sea, or even on any tree.
2  And I saw another angel coming up from the east, carrying the seal of the living God. And he shouted to those four angels, who had been given power to harm land and sea,
3  “Wait! Don’t harm the land or the sea or the trees until we have placed the seal of God on the foreheads of his servants.”
4  And I heard how many were marked with the seal of God—144,000 were sealed from all the tribes of Israel:

5  from Judah12,000
from Reuben12,000
from Gad12,000
6  from Asher12,000
from Naphtali12,000

from Issachar12,000
8  from Zebulun12,000
from Joseph12,000
from Benjamin12,000

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
1  After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds so that no wind should blow on the earth or the sea or against any tree.
2  And I saw another angel coming up from the east with the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels to whom God had given the power to damage the earth and the sea.
3  The angel said, “Do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees, until we mark the servants of our God with a seal on their foreheads.”
4  And I was told that the number of those who were marked with God's seal on their foreheads was 144,000. They were from the twelve tribes of Israel,
5-8  twelve thousand from each tribe: Judah, Reuben, Gad, Asher, Naphtali, Manasseh, Simeon, Levi, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph, and Benjamin.

The Lamb Breaks The First Six Seals (Revelation 6) New Living and Good News Translations

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
1    As I watched, the Lamb broke the first of the seven seals on the scroll. Then I heard one of the four living beings say with a voice like thunder, “Come!”
2    I looked up and saw a white horse standing there. Its rider carried a bow, and a crown was placed on his head. He rode out to win many battles and gain the victory.
3    When the Lamb broke the second seal, I heard the second living being say, “Come!”
4    Then another horse appeared, a red one. Its rider was given a mighty sword and the authority to take peace from the earth. And there was war and slaughter everywhere.
5    When the Lamb broke the third seal, I heard the third living being say, “Come!” I looked up and saw a black horse, and its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand.
6    And I heard a voice from among the four living beings say, “A loaf of wheat bread or three loaves of barley will cost a day’s pay.  And don’t waste the olive oil and wine.”
7    When the Lamb broke the fourth seal, I heard the fourth living being say, “Come!”
8    I looked up and saw a horse whose color was pale green. Its rider was named Death, and his companion was the Grave. These two were given authority over one-fourth of the earth, to kill with the sword and famine and disease and wild animals.
9    When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of all who had been martyred for the word of God and for being faithful in their testimony.
10  They shouted to the Lord and said, “O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you judge the people who belong to this world and avenge our blood for what they have done to us?”
11  Then a white robe was given to each of them. And they were told to rest a little longer until the full number of their brothers and sisters—their fellow servants of Jesus who were to be martyred—had joined them.
12  I watched as the Lamb broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake. The sun became as dark as black cloth, and the moon became as red as blood.
13  Then the stars of the sky fell to the earth like green figs falling from a tree shaken by a strong wind.
14  The sky was rolled up like a scroll, and all of the mountains and islands were moved from their places.
15  Then everyone—the kings of the earth, the rulers, the generals, the wealthy, the powerful, and every slave and free person—all hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains.
16  And they cried to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of the one who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb.
17  For the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to survive?”

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
1    Then I saw the Lamb break open the first of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice that sounded like thunder, “Come!”
2    I looked, and there was a white horse. Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown. He rode out as a conqueror to conquer.
3    Then the Lamb broke open the second seal; and I heard the second living creature say, “Come!”
4    Another horse came out, a red one. Its rider was given the power to bring war on the earth, so that people should kill each other. He was given a large sword.
5    Then the Lamb broke open the third seal; and I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there was a black horse. Its rider held a pair of scales in his hand.
6    I heard what sounded like a voice coming from among the four living creatures, which said, “A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages. But do not damage the olive trees and the vineyards!”
7    Then the Lamb broke open the fourth seal; and I heard the fourth living creature say, “Come!”
8    I looked, and there was a pale-colored horse. Its rider was named Death, and Hades followed close behind. They were given authority over one fourth of the earth, to kill by means of war, famine, disease, and wild animals.
9    Then the Lamb broke open the fifth seal. I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been killed because they had proclaimed God's word and had been faithful in their witnessing.
10  They shouted in a loud voice, “Almighty Lord, holy and true! How long will it be until you judge the people on earth and punish them for killing us?”
11  Each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to rest a little while longer, until the complete number of other servants and believers were killed, as they had been.
12  And I saw the Lamb break open the sixth seal. There was a violent earthquake, and the sun became black like coarse black cloth, and the moon turned completely red like blood.
13  The stars fell down to the earth, like unripe figs falling from the tree when a strong wind shakes it.
14  The sky disappeared like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved from its place.
15  Then the kings of the earth, the rulers and the military chiefs, the rich and the powerful, and all other people, slave and free, hid themselves in caves and under rocks on the mountains.
16  They called out to the mountains and to the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the eyes of the one who sits on the throne and from the anger of the Lamb!
17  The terrible day of their anger is here, and who can stand up against it?”

The Scroll And The Lamb (Revelation 5) New Living and Good News Translations

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
1    Then I saw a scroll in the right hand of the one who was sitting on the throne. There was writing on the inside and the outside of the scroll, and it was sealed with seven seals.
2    And I saw a strong angel, who shouted with a loud voice: “Who is worthy to break the seals on this scroll and open it?”
3    But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll and read it.
4    Then I began to weep bitterly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll and read it.
5    But one of the twenty-four elders said to me, “Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David’s throne, has won the victory. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
6    Then I saw a Lamb that looked as if it had been slaughtered, but it was now standing between the throne and the four living beings and among the twenty-four elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which represent the sevenfold Spirit of God that is sent out into every part of the earth.
7    He stepped forward and took the scroll from the right hand of the one sitting on the throne.
8    And when he took the scroll, the four living beings and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp, and they held gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of God’s people.
9    And they sang a new song with these words:  “You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals and open it.  For you were slaughtered, and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.
10  And you have caused them to become a Kingdom of priests for our God.  And they will reign on the earth.”
11  Then I looked again, and I heard the voices of thousands and millions of angels around the throne and of the living beings and the elders.
12  And they sang in a mighty chorus:  “Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered—to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.”
13  And then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They sang:  “Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.”
14  And the four living beings said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped the Lamb.

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
1    I saw a scroll in the right hand of the one who sits on the throne; it was covered with writing on both sides and was sealed with seven seals.
2    And I saw a mighty angel, who announced in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?”
3    But there was no one in heaven or on earth or in the world below who could open the scroll and look inside it.
4    I cried bitterly because no one could be found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside it.
5    Then one of the elders said to me, “Don't cry. Look! The Lion from Judah's tribe, the great descendant of David, has won the victory, and he can break the seven seals and open the scroll.”
6    Then I saw a Lamb standing in the center of the throne, surrounded by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb appeared to have been killed. It had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God that have been sent through the whole earth.
7    The Lamb went and took the scroll from the right hand of the one who sits on the throne.
8    As he did so, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each had a harp and gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of God's people.
9    They sang a new song:  “You are worthy to take the scroll and to break open its seals.  For you were killed, and by your sacrificial death you bought for God people from every tribe, language, nation, and race.
10  You have made them a kingdom of priests to serve our God, and they shall rule on earth.”
11  Again I looked, and I heard angels, thousands and millions of them! They stood around the throne, the four living creatures, and the elders,
12  and sang in a loud voice:  “The Lamb who was killed is worthy to receive power, wealth, wisdom, and strength, honor, glory, and praise!”
13  And I heard every creature in heaven, on earth, in the world below, and in the sea—all living beings in the universe—and they were singing:  “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb, be praise and honor, glory and might, forever and ever!”
14  The four living creatures answered, “Amen!” And the elders fell down and worshiped.

Worship In Heaven (Revelation 4:1-11) New Living and Good News Translations

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
1    Then as I looked, I saw a door standing open in heaven, and the same voice I had heard before spoke to me like a trumpet blast. The voice said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this.”
2    And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and someone sitting on it.
3    The one sitting on the throne was as brilliant as gemstones—like jasper and carnelian. And the glow of an emerald circled his throne like a rainbow.
4    Twenty-four thrones surrounded him, and twenty-four elders sat on them. They were all clothed in white and had gold crowns on their heads.
5    From the throne came flashes of lightning and the rumble of thunder. And in front of the throne were seven torches with burning flames. This is the sevenfold Spirit of God.
6    In front of the throne was a shiny sea of glass, sparkling like crystal.  In the center and around the throne were four living beings, each covered with eyes, front and back.
7    The first of these living beings was like a lion; the second was like an ox; the third had a human face; and the fourth was like an eagle in flight.
8    Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—
the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”
9    Whenever the living beings give glory and honor and thanks to the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever),
10  the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever). And they lay their crowns before the throne and say,
11  “You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power.  For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.”

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
1    At this point I had another vision and saw an open door in heaven.  And the voice that sounded like a trumpet, which I had heard speaking to me before, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this.”
2    At once the Spirit took control of me. There in heaven was a throne with someone sitting on it.
3    His face gleamed like such precious stones as jasper and carnelian, and all around the throne there was a rainbow the color of an emerald.
4    In a circle around the throne were twenty-four other thrones, on which were seated twenty-four elders dressed in white and wearing crowns of gold.
5    From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings, and peals of thunder. In front of the throne seven lighted torches were burning, which are the seven spirits of God.
6    Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal.  Surrounding the throne on each of its sides, were four living creatures covered with eyes in front and behind.
7    The first one looked like a lion; the second looked like a bull; the third had a face like a human face; and the fourth looked like an eagle in flight.
8    Each one of the four living creatures had six wings, and they were covered with eyes, inside and out. Day and night they never stop singing:  “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was, who is, and who is to come.”
9    The four living creatures sing songs of glory and honor and thanks to the one who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever. When they do so,
10  the twenty-four elders fall down before the one who sits on the throne, and worship him who lives forever and ever. They throw their crowns down in front of the throne and say,
11  “Our Lord and God! You are worthy to receive glory, honor, and power.  For you created all things, and by your will they were given existence and life.”

The Message To The Church In Laodicea (Revelation 3:14-22) New Living and Good News Translations

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
14  “Write this letter to the angel of the church in Laodicea. This is the message from the one who is the Amen—the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s new creation:
15  “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other!
16  But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!
17  You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.
18  So I advise you to buy gold from me—gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see.
19  I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.
20  “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.
21  Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne.
22  “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.”

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
14  “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:  “This is the message from the Amen, the faithful and true witness, who is the origin of all that God has created.
15  I know what you have done; I know that you are neither cold nor hot. How I wish you were either one or the other!
16  But because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I am going to spit you out of my mouth!
17  You say, ‘I am rich and well off; I have all I need.’ But you do not know how miserable and pitiful you are! You are poor, naked, and blind.
18  I advise you, then, to buy gold from me, pure gold, in order to be rich. Buy also white clothing to dress yourself and cover up your shameful nakedness. Buy also some ointment to put on your eyes, so that you may see.
19  I rebuke and punish all whom I love. Be in earnest, then, and turn from your sins.
20  Listen! I stand at the door and knock; if any hear my voice and open the door, I will come into their house and eat with them, and they will eat with me.
21  To those who win the victory I will give the right to sit beside me on my throne, just as I have been victorious and now sit by my Father on his throne.
22  “If you have ears, then, listen to what the Spirit says to the churches!”

The Message To The Church In Philadelphia (Revelation 3:7-13) New Living and Good News Translations

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
7    “Write this letter to the angel of the church in Philadelphia.  This is the message from the one who is holy and true, the one who has the key of David.  What he opens, no one can close; and what he closes, no one can open:
8    “I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you obeyed my word and did not deny me.
9    Look, I will force those who belong to Satan’s synagogue—those liars who say they are Jews but are not—to come and bow down at your feet. They will acknowledge that you are the ones I love.
10  “Because you have obeyed my command to persevere, I will protect you from the great time of testing that will come upon the whole world to test those who belong to this world.
11  I am coming soon.  Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take away your crown.
12  All who are victorious will become pillars in the Temple of my God, and they will never have to leave it. And I will write on them the name of my God, and they will be citizens in the city of my God—the new Jerusalem that comes down from heaven from my God. And I will also write on them my new name.
13  “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
7    “To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:  “This is the message from the one who is holy and true. He has the key that belonged to David, and when he opens a door, no one can close it, and when he closes it, no one can open it.
8    I know what you do; I know that you have a little power; you have followed my teaching and have been faithful to me. I have opened a door in front of you, which no one can close.
9    Listen! As for that group that belongs to Satan, those liars who claim that they are Jews but are not, I will make them come and bow down at your feet. They will all know that I love you.
10  Because you have kept my command to endure, I will also keep you safe from the time of trouble which is coming upon the world to test all the people on earth.
11  I am coming soon. Keep safe what you have, so that no one will rob you of your victory prize.
12  I will make those who are victorious pillars in the temple of my God, and they will never leave it. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which will come down out of heaven from my God. I will also write on them my new name.
13  “If you have ears, then, listen to what the Spirit says to the churches!

The Message To The Church In Sardis (Revelation 3:1-6) New Living and Good News Translations

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
1  “Write this letter to the angel of the church in Sardis. This is the message from the one who has the sevenfold Spirit of God and the seven stars:  “I know all the things you do, and that you have a reputation for being alive—but you are dead.
2  Wake up! Strengthen what little remains, for even what is left is almost dead. I find that your actions do not meet the requirements of my God.
3  Go back to what you heard and believed at first; hold to it firmly. Repent and turn to me again. If you don’t wake up, I will come to you suddenly, as unexpected as a thief.
4  “Yet there are some in the church in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes with evil. They will walk with me in white, for they are worthy.
5  All who are victorious will be clothed in white. I will never erase their names from the Book of Life, but I will announce before my Father and his angels that they are mine.
6  “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
1  “To the angel of the church in Sardis write:
“This is the message from the one who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know what you are doing; I know that you have the reputation of being alive, even though you are dead!
2  So wake up, and strengthen what you still have before it dies completely. For I find that what you have done is not yet perfect in the sight of my God.
3  Remember, then, what you were taught and what you heard; obey it and turn from your sins. If you do not wake up, I will come upon you like a thief, and you will not even know the time when I will come.
4  But a few of you there in Sardis have kept your clothes clean. You will walk with me, clothed in white, because you are worthy to do so.
5  Those who win the victory will be clothed like this in white, and I will not remove their names from the book of the living. In the presence of my Father and of his angels I will declare openly that they belong to me.
6  “If you have ears, then, listen to what the Spirit says to the churches!

The Message To The Church In Thyatira (Revelation 2:18-29) New Living and Good News Translations

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
18  “Write this letter to the angel of the church in Thyatira. This is the message from the Son of God, whose eyes are like flames of fire, whose feet are like polished bronze:
19  “I know all the things you do. I have seen your love, your faith, your service, and your patient endurance. And I can see your constant improvement in all these things.
20  “But I have this complaint against you. You are permitting that woman—that Jezebel who calls herself a prophet—to lead my servants astray. She teaches them to commit sexual sin and to eat food offered to idols.
21  I gave her time to repent, but she does not want to turn away from her immorality.
22  “Therefore, I will throw her on a bed of suffering, and those who commit adultery with her will suffer greatly unless they repent and turn away from her evil deeds.
23  I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am the one who searches out the thoughts and intentions of every person. And I will give to each of you whatever you deserve.
24  “But I also have a message for the rest of you in Thyatira who have not followed this false teaching (‘deeper truths,’ as they call them—depths of Satan, actually). I will ask nothing more of you
25  except that you hold tightly to what you have until I come.
26  To all who are victorious, who obey me to the very end,  To them I will give authority over all the nations.
27  They will rule the nations with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots.
28  They will have the same authority I received from my Father, and I will also give them the morning star!
29  “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
18  “To the angel of the church in Thyatira write:  “This is the message from the Son of God, whose eyes blaze like fire, whose feet shine like polished brass.
19  I know what you do. I know your love, your faithfulness, your service, and your patience. I know that you are doing more now than you did at first.
20  But this is what I have against you: you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a messenger of God. By her teaching she misleads my servants into practicing sexual immorality and eating food that has been offered to idols.
21  I have given her time to repent of her sins, but she does not want to turn from her immorality.
22  And so I will throw her on a bed where she and those who committed adultery with her will suffer terribly. I will do this now unless they repent of the wicked things they did with her.
23  I will also kill her followers, and then all the churches will know that I am the one who knows everyone's thoughts and wishes. I will repay each of you according to what you have done.
24  “But the rest of you in Thyatira have not followed this evil teaching; you have not learned what the others call ‘the deep secrets of Satan.’ I say to you that I will not put any other burden on you.
25  But until I come, you must hold firmly to what you have.
26-28  To those who win the victory, who continue to the end to do what I want, I will give the same authority that I received from my Father: I will give them authority over the nations, to rule them with an iron rod and to break them to pieces like clay pots. I will also give them the morning star.
29  “If you have ears, then, listen to what the Spirit says to the churches!

The Message To The Church At Pergamum (Revelation 2:12-17) New Living and Good News Translations

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
12  "Write this letter to the angel of the church in Pergamum. This is the message from the one with the sharp two-edged sword:
13  “I know that you live in the city where Satan has his throne, yet you have remained loyal to me. You refused to deny me even when Antipas, my faithful witness, was martyred among you there in Satan’s city.
14  “But I have a few complaints against you. You tolerate some among you whose teaching is like that of Balaam, who showed Balak how to trip up the people of Israel. He taught them to sin by eating food offered to idols and by committing sexual sin.
15  In a similar way, you have some Nicolaitans among you who follow the same teaching.
16  Repent of your sin, or I will come to you suddenly and fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
17  “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give some of the manna that has been hidden away in heaven. And I will give to each one a white stone, and on the stone will be engraved a new name that no one understands except the one who receives it.

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
12  “To the angel of the church in Pergamum write:  “This is the message from the one who has the sharp two-edged sword.
13  I know where you live, there where Satan has his throne. You are true to me, and you did not abandon your faith in me even during the time when Antipas, my faithful witness, was killed there where Satan lives.
14  But there are a few things I have against you: there are some among you who follow the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak how to lead the people of Israel into sin by persuading them to eat food that had been offered to idols and to practice sexual immorality.
15  In the same way you have people among you who follow the teaching of the Nicolaitans.
16  Now turn from your sins! If you don't, I will come to you soon and fight against those people with the sword that comes out of my mouth.
17  “If you have ears, then, listen to what the Spirit says to the churches!  “To those who win the victory I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give each of them a white stone on which is written a new name that no one knows except the one who receives it.

The Message To The Church In Smyrna (Revelation 2:8-11) New Living and Good News Translations

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
8    “Write this letter to the angel of the church in Smyrna. This is the message from the one who is the First and the Last, who was dead but is now alive:
9    “I know about your suffering and your poverty—but you are rich! I know the blasphemy of those opposing you. They say they are Jews, but they are not, because their synagogue belongs to Satan.
10  Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. The devil will throw some of you into prison to test you. You will suffer for ten days. But if you remain faithful even when facing death, I will give you the crown of life.
11  “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. Whoever is victorious will not be harmed by the second death.

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
8    “To the angel of the church in Smyrna write:
“This is the message from the one who is the first and the last, who died and lived again.
9    I know your troubles; I know that you are poor—but really you are rich! I know the evil things said against you by those who claim to be Jews but are not; they are a group that belongs to Satan!
10  Don't be afraid of anything you are about to suffer. Listen! The Devil will put you to the test by having some of you thrown into prison, and your troubles will last ten days. Be faithful to me, even if it means death, and I will give you life as your prize of victory.
11  “If you have ears, then, listen to what the Spirit says to the churches!  “Those who win the victory will not be hurt by the second death.

The Message To The Church In Ephesus (Revelation 2:1-7) New Living and Good News Translations

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
1  “Write this letter to the angel of the church in Ephesus. This is the message from the one who holds the seven stars in his right hand, the one who walks among the seven gold lampstands:
2  “I know all the things you do. I have seen your hard work and your patient endurance. I know you don’t tolerate evil people. You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars.
3  You have patiently suffered for me without quitting.
4  “But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first!
5  Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don’t repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.
6  But this is in your favor: You hate the evil deeds of the Nicolaitans, just as I do.
7  “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give fruit from the tree of life in the paradise of God.

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
1  “To the angel of the church in Ephesus write:
“This is the message from the one who holds the seven stars in his right hand and who walks among the seven gold lampstands.
2  I know what you have done; I know how hard you have worked and how patient you have been. I know that you cannot tolerate evil people and that you have tested those who say they are apostles but are not, and have found out that they are liars.
3  You are patient, you have suffered for my sake, and you have not given up.
4  But this is what I have against you: you do not love me now as you did at first.
5  Think how far you have fallen! Turn from your sins and do what you did at first. If you don't turn from your sins, I will come to you and take your lampstand from its place.
6  But this is what you have in your favor: you hate what the Nicolaitans do, as much as I do.
7  “If you have ears, then, listen to what the Spirit says to the churches!
“To those who win the victory I will give the right to eat the fruit of the tree of life that grows in the Garden of God.

A Vision Of Christ (Revelation 1:9-20) New Living and Good News Translations

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
9    I, John, am your brother and your partner in suffering and in God’s Kingdom and in the patient endurance to which Jesus calls us. I was exiled to the island of Patmos for preaching the word of God and for my testimony about Jesus.
10  It was the Lord’s Day, and I was worshiping in the Spirit.  Suddenly, I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet blast.
11  It said, “Write in a book everything you see, and send it to the seven churches in the cities of Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.”
12  When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw seven gold lampstands.
13  And standing in the middle of the lampstands was someone like the Son of Man.  He was wearing a long robe with a gold sash across his chest.
14  His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And his eyes were like flames of fire.
15  His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves.
16  He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from his mouth. And his face was like the sun in all its brilliance.
17  When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last.
18  I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.
19  “Write down what you have seen—both the things that are now happening and the things that will happen.
20  This is the meaning of the mystery of the seven stars you saw in my right hand and the seven gold lampstands: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
9    I am John, your brother, and as a follower of Jesus I am your partner in patiently enduring the suffering that comes to those who belong to his Kingdom. I was put on the island of Patmos because I had proclaimed God's word and the truth that Jesus revealed.
10  On the Lord's day the Spirit took control of me, and I heard a loud voice, that sounded like a trumpet, speaking behind me.
11  It said, “Write down what you see, and send the book to the churches in these seven cities: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.”
12  I turned around to see who was talking to me, and I saw seven gold lampstands,
13  and among them there was what looked like a human being, wearing a robe that reached to his feet, and a gold band around his chest.
14  His hair was white as wool, or as snow, and his eyes blazed like fire;
15  his feet shone like brass that has been refined and polished, and his voice sounded like a roaring waterfall.
16  He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came out of his mouth. His face was as bright as the midday sun.
17  When I saw him, I fell down at his feet like a dead man. He placed his right hand on me and said, “Don't be afraid! I am the first and the last.
18  I am the living one! I was dead, but now I am alive forever and ever. I have authority over death and the world of the dead.
19  Write, then, the things you see, both the things that are now and the things that will happen afterward.
20  Here is the secret meaning of the seven stars that you see in my right hand, and of the seven gold lampstands: the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

And all the nations of the world will mourn for him.  Yes! Amen!
8  “I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.”

5  and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the first to be raised from death and who is also the ruler of the kings of the world.  He loves us, and by his sacrificial death he has freed us from our sins
6  and made us a kingdom of priests to serve his God and Father. To Jesus Christ be the glory and power forever and ever! Amen.
7  Look, he is coming on the clouds! Everyone will see him, including those who pierced him. All peoples on earth will mourn over him. So shall it be!
8  “I am the first and the last,” says the Lord God Almighty, who is, who was, and who is to come.

A Call To Remain Faithful (Jude 1:17-25) New Living and Good News Translations

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
17  But you, my dear friends, must remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ predicted.
18  They told you that in the last times there would be scoffers whose purpose in life is to satisfy their ungodly desires.
19  These people are the ones who are creating divisions among you. They follow their natural instincts because they do not have God’s Spirit in them.
20  But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit,
21  and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.
22  And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering.
23  Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others,  but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.
24  Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault.
25  All glory to him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen.

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
17  But remember, my friends, what you were told in the past by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.
18  They said to you, “When the last days come, people will appear who will make fun of you, people who follow their own godless desires.”
19  These are the people who cause divisions, who are controlled by their natural desires, who do not have the Spirit.
20  But you, my friends, keep on building yourselves up on your most sacred faith. Pray in the power of the Holy Spirit,
21  and keep yourselves in the love of God, as you wait for our Lord Jesus Christ in his mercy to give you eternal life.
22  Show mercy toward those who have doubts;
23  save others by snatching them out of the fire; and to others show mercy mixed with fear, but hate their very clothes, stained by their sinful lusts.
24  To him who is able to keep you from falling and to bring you faultless and joyful before his glorious presence—
25  to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, might, and authority, from all ages past, and now, and forever and ever! Amen.

The Danger Of False Teachers (Jude 1-16 (New Living and Good News Translations)

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
1    This letter is from Jude, a slave of Jesus Christ and a brother of James.  I am writing to all who have been called by God the Father, who loves you and keeps you safe in the care of Jesus Christ.
2    May God give you more and more mercy, peace, and love.
3    Dear friends, I had been eagerly planning to write to you about the salvation we all share. But now I find that I must write about something else, urging you to defend the faith that God has entrusted once for all time to his holy people.
4    I say this because some ungodly people have wormed their way into your churches, saying that God’s marvelous grace allows us to live immoral lives. The condemnation of such people was recorded long ago, for they have denied our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
5    So I want to remind you, though you already know these things, that Jesus first rescued the nation of Israel from Egypt, but later he destroyed those who did not remain faithful.
6    And I remind you of the angels who did not stay within the limits of authority God gave them but left the place where they belonged. God has kept them securely chained in prisons of darkness, waiting for the great day of judgment.
7    And don’t forget Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring towns, which were filled with immorality and every kind of sexual perversion. Those cities were destroyed by fire and serve as a warning of the eternal fire of God’s judgment.
8    In the same way, these people—who claim authority from their dreams—live immoral lives, defy authority, and scoff at supernatural beings.
9    But even Michael, one of the mightiest of the angels, did not dare accuse the devil of blasphemy, but simply said, “The Lord rebuke you!” (This took place when Michael was arguing with the devil about Moses’ body.)
10  But these people scoff at things they do not understand. Like unthinking animals, they do whatever their instincts tell them, and so they bring about their own destruction.
11  What sorrow awaits them! For they follow in the footsteps of Cain, who killed his brother. Like Balaam, they deceive people for money. And like Korah, they perish in their rebellion.
12  When these people eat with you in your fellowship meals commemorating the Lord’s love, they are like dangerous reefs that can shipwreck you. They are like shameless shepherds who care only for themselves. They are like clouds blowing over the land without giving any rain. They are like trees in autumn that are doubly dead, for they bear no fruit and have been pulled up by the roots.
13  They are like wild waves of the sea, churning up the foam of their shameful deeds. They are like wandering stars, doomed forever to blackest darkness.
14  Enoch, who lived in the seventh generation after Adam, prophesied about these people. He said, “Listen! The Lord is coming with countless thousands of his holy ones
15  to execute judgment on the people of the world. He will convict every person of all the ungodly things they have done and for all the insults that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”
16  These people are grumblers and complainers, living only to satisfy their desires. They brag loudly about themselves, and they flatter others to get what they want.

GOOD NEWS TRANSLATION
1    From Jude, servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James—To those who have been called by God, who live in the love of God the Father and the protection of Jesus Christ:
2    May mercy, peace, and love be yours in full measure.
3    My dear friends, I was doing my best to write to you about the salvation we share in common, when I felt the need of writing at once to encourage you to fight on for the faith which once and for all God has given to his people.
4    For some godless people have slipped in unnoticed among us, persons who distort the message about the grace of our God in order to excuse their immoral ways, and who reject Jesus Christ, our only Master and Lord. Long ago the Scriptures predicted the condemnation they have received.
5    For even though you know all this, I want to remind you of how the Lord once rescued the people of Israel from Egypt, but afterward destroyed those who did not believe.
6    Remember the angels who did not stay within the limits of their proper authority, but abandoned their own dwelling place: they are bound with eternal chains in the darkness below, where God is keeping them for that great Day on which they will be condemned.
7    Remember Sodom and Gomorrah, and the nearby towns, whose people acted as those angels did and indulged in sexual immorality and perversion: they suffer the punishment of eternal fire as a plain warning to all.
8    In the same way also, these people have visions which make them sin against their own bodies; they despise God's authority and insult the glorious beings above.
9    Not even the chief angel Michael did this. In his quarrel with the Devil, when they argued about who would have the body of Moses, Michael did not dare condemn the Devil with insulting words, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”
10  But these people attack with insults anything they do not understand; and those things that they know by instinct, like wild animals, are the very things that destroy them.
11  How terrible for them! They have followed the way that Cain took. For the sake of money they have given themselves over to the error that Balaam committed. They have rebelled as Korah rebelled, and like him they are destroyed.
12  With their shameless carousing they are like dirty spots in your fellowship meals. They take care only of themselves. They are like clouds carried along by the wind, but bringing no rain. They are like trees that bear no fruit, even in autumn, trees that have been pulled up by the roots and are completely dead.
13  They are like wild waves of the sea, with their shameful deeds showing up like foam. They are like wandering stars, for whom God has reserved a place forever in the deepest darkness.
14  It was Enoch, the seventh direct descendant from Adam, who long ago prophesied this about them: “The Lord will come with many thousands of his holy angels
15  to bring judgment on all, to condemn them all for the godless deeds they have performed and for all the terrible words that godless sinners have spoken against him!”
16  These people are always grumbling and blaming others; they follow their own evil desires; they brag about themselves and flatter others in order to get their own way.
